Web and mobile apps
I design and build web and mobile apps for customers and staff: portals, booking and ordering tools, field apps and the admin screens behind them. The aim is software people find easy to use, that loads quickly and keeps working.
What I can help with
Customer portals
Let customers log in to see their orders, bookings, documents or account details, instead of phoning or emailing you.
Booking and ordering
Online booking, quotes and ordering that fit how your business actually takes work, not a generic template.
Staff and field apps
Apps for people on the move to check jobs, record work, take photos and capture signatures.
iPhone and Android apps
Apps taken through App Store and Google Play review, and kept up to date as new versions of iOS and Android arrive.
Admin and back office
The dashboards and admin screens your team uses to run the service behind the app.
Taking over existing apps
Picking up an app that's slow, unreliable or has lost its developer, and getting it back into good shape.
How I approach it
Start with the people using it
Before any screens, I look at who will use the app, where they'll use it and what they're trying to get done.
Something working early
You see a working version early on, so your feedback shapes the build rather than arriving at the end.
Mainstream, well-supported technology
I build with widely used tools, so the app isn't tied to me and another developer could pick it up.
Looked after once it's live
Hosting, monitoring, updates and app store releases can carry on after launch, as much or as little as you need.
Questions
- Should it be a web app or a mobile app?
- Often a web app is enough: it works on any device and there's nothing to install. A mobile app makes sense when people use it every day, need it without a signal, or need the camera, location or notifications. I'll recommend one in the proposal.
- Can you work on an app someone else built?
- Yes. I'll review the code and hosting first, so you know what's in good shape and what needs attention before any new work starts.
