Platform migrations
Moving to a new platform is one of the riskier changes a business makes. Data goes missing, links break and staff find gaps on launch day. I plan and run migrations so everything that matters comes across and the business keeps running throughout.
What I can help with
Ecommerce moves
Moving stores from WooCommerce, Magento, WordPress or other platforms to Shopify.
Website moves
Moving websites between content systems or hosts without losing pages, content or search rankings.
Data migration
Customers, orders, products and records cleaned up, mapped and moved, with checks that the numbers add up.
Replacing older systems
Moving off old in-house software or databases onto modern, supported systems.
Redirects and SEO
Every old address pointed at its new home, so links and search rankings carry over.
Launch planning
A switchover plan with practice runs, a final data sync and a way back if anything goes wrong.
How I approach it
Audit before moving
First I list what exists, what's actually used and what can be left behind.
Rehearse
Practice migrations run on copies of real data well before launch day, so surprises come early.
Check it all arrived
Record counts, totals and spot checks confirm the data came across complete.
Keep people working
The switchover is timed for a quiet period, with staff briefed beforehand and help on hand in the days after launch.
Recent work
Romerils
Jersey's leading home interiors retailer, moved from WordPress to Shopify.
Questions
- Will we lose our search rankings?
- Some movement is normal after any migration. With redirects, page titles and content carried across properly, the risk is much smaller, and rankings are watched closely after launch.
- Do we have to stop making changes during the move?
- Usually only for a short window at switchover. Changes made before then are picked up by the final data sync.
